Pavlovas~ Meringues~Macarons

I love meringues and pavlovas. I don't often makes them, but they are an all-time favorite of mine. Aren't these beautiful? Perhaps too pretty to eat!
I love the Robin's egg blue and splashes of gold.

There is a special dining spot on the coast that serves a Bird's Nest Meringue.
A nest of vanilla meringue filled with homemade coffee ice cream and topped with warm chocolate.

These cute meringue cookies with fortunes baked in. What a great idea for a birthday party~ or Valentine's Day.

These resemble more the meringue cookies I have made. Usually vanilla or chocolate with tiny chocolate chips.

Now these Macarons are what I really want!
Do any of you know of a decent mail-order macaron here in the states?

Pavlovas make decadent desserts when entertaining. Topped with whipped cream and an assortment of fresh fruits.

Mostly I settle for a simple sugar cookie or gingersnap recipe when we want to have a little treat around the house.

...but aren't these just the perfect meringues for Valentine's Day?
Fluffy, light, pink perfection~ lightly dusted with powdered sugar.

Off to make some egg-whites for breakfast... that's as close as I'll get to a meringue anytime soon.

  1. The first ones...wow! The description of the one with coffee icecream..double wow! Finally, I recently noticed that Saks.com sells Payard Macaroons, I have never ordered them online, but I know when I lived in the city, the Payard ones were great.

  7. I adore meringues in all their forms! When I was a girl my parents used to take me to Le Garage in Wiscasset for my birthday. It was really good in those days, but I've heard it's not good anymore. Anyway, this was the late 70's and early 80's, and I would always order a bird's nest meringue. It was heaven on earth to me!

In fact, my love of meringues continued on in cooking school where we'd pipe meringue folded with crushed almonds into circles, bake them very slowly, and then use the meringue discs as layers in cakes. Sigh.

Oh, and I love pavlova. I had one in England last summer that was piled with passion fruit, strawberries, blackberries, and currants. Seriously amazing!

This is such a beautiful post, Deb! Can you tell I adore everything about it? Those robin's egg blue meringues in the top photo are so, so beautiful! Love the dots of gold.

As far as mail-order macarons goes, have you tried Burdick's? They specialize in amazing chocolate, but their macarons are lovely, too. I'm actually going to the Burdick's in Cambridge this coming week. I wish you lived nearby so I could bring some of their lavender and/ or pistachio macarons to you! I think you can order from their website, though. ;D
