An Apple a Day~

I think Maine orchards produce the best apples. This is the time of year that I like to start eating an apple a day. We happen to live in orchard country, which means fresh apples are available for several months. I love baking with apples. Apple crisp, apple pies, a family favorite~Jewish Apple Cake, apple sauce. For cooking, baking and eating I adore Cortlands.

~Granny Smith~
Granny Smith is also great for baking and eating. And who can resist that glorious color?

But this one may be my favorite, if only for the namesake of a very special man in my life.
What's your apple of choice?

  1. I happen to have an apple tree in my front yard and when my daughter was born and I called my mother to tell her "It's a girl" - she said, I am still making applesauce! I have a wonderful picture of my Dad and I when he introduced his customers to "granny smith" apples all the way from New Zealand. I have so many favorite apples, I love them all, but really love baked apples.

  2. I think the Galas are very tasty. I love the NAME of the Pink Lady apples and I absolutely ADORE the Honey Crisp apples. They are my #1 apples to eat.

And I agree, there is nothing more homey and inviting than the smell of a baking apple pie. I will be right over, get the coffee ready!! xoxo

  3. I love homemade apple sauce reminds me of home. Hey Ina we share the same favorite apples! We use to have an orchard here within walking distance now stands big beautiful homes. I can't wait to apple pick this year. Enjoy my friend! xoxo

  4. It's hard to say because there are so many tasty apples, but I think Macoun wins out. I also like yellow delicious. However, I bake w/Granny Smith. Now you have my head dancing w/apples. :)

  5. I too lovely the Galas. Apple Crisp here I come, and also my Mother's prize winning apple dumplings!

  6. I love all kind of apples and the things they make.I love this time of year.

  7. My top apple pick is the Honey Crisp. But man do they ever charge for the goodness!
