An Apple a Day~

~Cortland~
I think Maine orchards produce the best apples. This is the time of year that I like to start eating an apple a day. We happen to live in orchard country, which means fresh apples are available for several months. I love baking with apples. Apple crisp, apple pies, a family favorite~Jewish Apple Cake, apple sauce. For cooking, baking and eating I adore Cortlands.

~Granny Smith~
Granny Smith is also great for baking and eating. And who can resist that glorious color?

~Jonathan~

But this one may be my favorite, if only for the namesake of a very special man in my life.

What's your apple of choice?

  1. I happen to have an apple tree in my front yard and when my daughter was born and I called my mother to tell her "It's a girl" - she said, I am still making applesauce! I have a wonderful picture of my Dad and I when he introduced his customers to "granny smith" apples all the way from New Zealand. I have so many favorite apples, I love them all, but really love baked apples.

  2. I think the Galas are very tasty. I love the NAME of the Pink Lady apples and I absolutely ADORE the Honey Crisp apples. They are my #1 apples to eat.

And I agree, there is nothing more homey and inviting than the smell of a baking apple pie. I will be right over, get the coffee ready!! xoxo
