A special little boy~

~A sacred spot~

Many years ago my DH brought me to this cemetery in Camden to show me this marker.
My heart sank. The stone was surrounded by toy cars and trucks, stuffed animals, coins, rattles~ a teething toy, a cement statue of an angel to watch over him.
One thoughtful visitor has planted an evergreen and it is decorated each Christmas.

On Saturday, after lunch and on our way to Vesper Hill-The Children's Chapel {another post}, we stopped by. There were some of the same toys that have been there for years and weathered many Maine coastal storms. This time there was a flag and a little pumpkin.

Was it a terrible, unfortunate, unreported accident? Was his Mother unable to care for him?
Was it a murder? I have tried to figure out in my mind what happened to end a precious life so soon, so young. He was about 5 months old. Surely someone would have noticed that he suddenly disappeared from a family.
Each time I visit this sacred place, I walk away feeling sad, wondering what really happened.
~*~
If he were alive today, he would be 69 years old. But for me and I'm sure countless others- he will always be a sweet, innocent little boy of 5 months...
who is much loved .

  1. I am sure this baby became an Angel immediately.

  2. My Mother took us the "Cave Hill Cemetery" when we were little to feed the ducks and to see the swans and to walk. Some of the gravestones are the most poignant, so full of life, marked by a stone.
Perhaps my mother knew that these trips would forever be etched in my memory. We always kept the stale bread for the ducks and on occasion the ducks were nearly coming home with us.

  7. A very sad unknown story of a sweet baby boy. I wonder why someone put the words unwanted on his stone. The word seem so harsh. I'm going to believe he was wanted by many and was greeted with open arms above. In his short life he has touch many along the way. xoxo

  8. Wow. That is so compelling. Don't you wonder about that little precious life? Like Joyce said above, he has touched many people more so in his death than in his short life.

(On a totally unrelated side note, I too am a Chanel girl. I loved your description of catching a sniff of your mother's perfume. That's the way to wear it--just a hint! It's only intended for those VERY close to experience, don't you think?)

  10. Here is a quote that I love:

"Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life..." John 5:28,29

Life is special even for those who are very tiny and seemingly insignificant.

A very thoughtful post Debra, thank you.
